Progress Software appoints John Bates as Chief Technology Officer (CTO)BEDFORD, Mass., Dec 10, 2009 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Progress Software Corporation (NASDAQ: PRGS), a leading independent enterprise software provider that enables companies to be operationally responsive, today announced the appointment of Dr. John Bates as the company's Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and Head of Corporate Development.

As Progress Software's Corporate CTO and Head of Corporate Development, Dr. Bates is now responsible for four key areas:

1. Creating and evolving Progress business strategies,

2. Acquiring companies to support Progress' business strategies,

3. Evangelizing Progress' strategy and solutions to the company's customers, partners and other constituencies, and

4. Driving product synergies across the company to support Progress' strategy to deliver solutions of the highest value and quality to the company's customers.

Dr. Bates is a recognized visionary and entrepreneur in the software industry, and has a strong track record of innovation in areas such as Event-Driven Architectures, Smart Environments, and Business Activity Monitoring. In particular, Dr. Bates is recognized as one of the foremost driving forces behind the emergence of Complex Event processing (CEP) and has pioneered the commercial use of event processing applications in business solutions that empower Operational Responsiveness, including capital markets trading, risk and compliance, telecommunications, fraud prevention, smart logistics and many more.
