Progress Co-authors Book About ACORD Information ModelBEDFORD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May. 18, 2009-- Progress Software Corporation (NASDAQ: PRGS), a global provider of application infrastructure software used to develop, deploy, integrate and manage business applications, today announced that Boris Bulanov, a Senior Director of Technology for Progress Software, has co-authored the new book, The ACORD Information Model: A Primer.

The ACORD Framework is the foundation for information architecture in insurance. The most detailed facet of it is the Information Model, a conceptual view of the entire insurance industry. The ACORD Information Model: A Primer introduces the Information Model (IM) in the context of the Framework to help readers visualize the importance of data to their overall business.

Co-written with Frank Neugebauer, Assistant Vice President of Technology for ACORD, and Kenneth Ekers, a senior business analyst with Prima Solutions, the book includes the following topics:

  • The evolution and specifics of data and semantic integration
  • An introduction to the ACORD Framework and the role of the IM
  • High-level concepts of the IM and practical application
  • An overview of the mappings
  • An explanation of how to go beyond mappings with the IM

“The development of the ACORD Information Model truly provides the insurance industry with the core component it needs to unite and align the industry to meet the demands of the rapidly changing marketplace and provide the basis of ACORD-based enterprise architectures,” states Cindy Maike, Partner with Futurity Group and former Director of Standards Strategy and Planning at ACORD. “The ACORD Information Model: A Primer provides an important introduction to this critical new piece of the ACORD Standards Framework.”

This book is the culmination of a collaboration among ACORD, the standard bearer for the industry, Prima Solutions, whose contribution to ACORD forms the basis of the ACORD Information Model, and Progress, whose software is used in the ACORD standards development process and whose Progress® DataXtend® Semantic Integrator software has been widely used in the adoption of information models in other industries, and has resulted in a practical and readable perspective.

The ACORD Information Model: A Primer, is available from ACORD (www.acord.org).
