Progress Software Named a Leader in New IDC MarketScape Report for the Business Process Platforms Category

Jun 22, 2011

BEDFORD, MA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 06/22/11 -- Progress Software Corporation (NASDAQ: PRGS), a leading software provider that enables enterprises to be operationally responsive, today announced that International Data Corporation (IDC) has named the Progress® Responsive Process Management (RPM) suite a leader in its newly developed business process platform category. IDC presented its findings in a report released on June 22, 2011: "IDC MarketScape: Business Process Platforms" (document 228598). According to the report, "Progress earned the highest score for innovation on the strength of its vision for the Progress RPM suite." The Progress RPM suite also received the top scores for product capabilities, technology platform and development environment.

The Progress RPM suite provides enterprises with a powerful software solution that gives them complete visibility and analytics across their business and the ability to sense and respond to any number of business events, positive and negative. The suite's feature-rich user interface, the Progress Control Tower™, enables rich visualizations, interactive analytics and intuitive drill downs across live and historical data. These features deliver a wealth of relevant, key performance indicators (KPIs) and business information. In addition the solution allows companies to continuously improve their business processes without disrupting their existing IT infrastructure or "ripping and replacing." This empowers enterprises to identify both opportunities and threats to achieve a higher level of business performance.

Maureen Fleming, Program Vice President, Business Process Management and Middleware, IDC, said: "Progress was the first to move around the broader vision of a control system spanning an end-to-end, heterogeneous process and, as an IDC MarketScape leader, we believe that the Progress RPM suite is suitable for a wide variety of process requirements. Its core BPM suite capabilities are suitable for use in process applications and, as enterprises evolve, to take on an end-to-end view of a process, the full suite supports cross-process monitoring, problem detection and orchestration across multiple heterogeneous applications."

Fleming also noted: "Progress appeared in a high number of competitive BPM deals we examined for this IDC MarketScape. When the Progress Savvion platform was invited to compete, it advanced to the shortlist a high percentage of times."

In its report, IDC cites the following as strengths of the Progress RPM suite:

  • Strong fact-based discovery and design tools, including the ability to trace a business transaction through all of the touch points of an end-to-end process for fact-based process discovery;
  • An advanced user interface (UI) development environment, which allows developers to compose a customized UI and model how users navigate through it;
  • Sophisticated data and integration capabilities;
  • Strong condition detection capabilities;
  • Strong monitoring and analytics; and
  • Competitive pricing that is in line with capabilities offered.

Dr. John Bates, chief technology officer, Progress Software, commented: "As competition increases and more data flows through the enterprise, organizations need agile processes with the ability to respond immediately to critical impending business risks and potential revenue opportunities. It's also critical that organizations can continuously improve their business process performance -- even in a legacy environment. That's the vision behind the Progress RPM suite and we're delighted that IDC not only shares our vision but that they have developed a new category based on it. We're proud to be recognized by IDC and to have our RPM customers acknowledged as market leaders in business performance."

The Progress RPM suite, comprises an easy-to-use, browser-based, interactive interface called the Progress Control Tower™, alongside Progress® Actional® Business Transaction Management (BTM), Progress Apama® Complex Event Processing (CEP) and Progress Savvion® Business Process Management (BPM) platforms. Progress also offers industry-specific solution accelerators that extend the core Progress RPM suite capabilities for the capital markets, insurance and communications industries. Solution accelerators facilitate the deployment of critical industry-specific capabilities ensuring a faster time-to-value and higher ROI.
